Old MacBook 10.7 no dmx signal

I'm trying to repurpose an old 2006 macbook that's been sitting in the garage for a few years.

Currently, I've got QLC+ working with the cheap $10 USB/dmx interface on my wifes spec'd out macbook pro running sierra, but it seems overkill to take a $3000 computer to a gig, and if I could use the old macbook I'd feel a lot more at ease.

The old macbook can only run on 10.7, but I'm sure that's enough. I've installed the d2xx drivers and the FTDI stuff that's specified for the OS, but for the life of me I can't get any dmx signal to the interface, which normally has a yellow led showing dmx activity. The $10 device shows up in QLC+ and says it is working properly, but I'm not getting any dmx.

I can get things working perfectly on the modern sierra computer, but nothing on the 2006 macbook.

Any help or direction would be appreciated as I'm new to a lot of this.

Steve
