Keypad numbers won't assign

This may be a strange question but I'm looking for a way to assign the numbers from a USB keypad to scenes in Virtual Console.
If I assign the numbers located across the top of my keyboard I have no issue but when I try to assign the number pad to the right (or in this case a separate USB keypad) it either doesn't recognize or only recognizes "NumLock". Those buttons work correctly in any other area but the assign section.
Is this something that can be adjusted in QLC or is there maybe a way to modify the way the Pi reads them?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
