To work with additional software effectivley though, keyboard shortcuts need to work regardless of what program is active.

I'd like a setting to make the software respond to keyboard shortcuts globally. Meaning, that keyboard shortcuts will still work even if the software is in the background.

This a paradox ... this cannot be done ... Say you have 5 applications open, and you press [CTRL]+[C]; this would ask for all applications to copy selected fields to the clipboard. Then the question is: what would you expect to get when you do [CTRL]+[V]?
