Hello,
I am wondering what is best, to purchase an onboard Audio and DMX interface?

or

get a USB DMX converter and a USB Audio input?

Personally I have been happy with the latest changes to the built-in audio. They changed the firmware last summer and you could actually hear the difference.

But, the Raspberry Pi 3 does not have a volume control or a mixer. So I purchased an Audio Injector Kickstarter HAT board. It has two rotational potentiometers. One for input audio gain before the mixer and another for master control to the sound output. So far I have not tested the setup. A brief check of used pins showed that it does not conflict with my DiscoHAT so both cards should work when stacked on top of each other. http://www.audioinjector.net/#!/rpi-hat

This is still untested by me due to lack of time. But on paper it looks great.
